Getting there

Arrival by plane

We recommend the Airport Nürnberg for international travelers. It connects Franconia with many destinations in and outside of Germany. The subway line U2 drives from the Airport Nürnberg to Nürnberg Central Station in 12 minutes. From there you can easily get to Bayreuth via train.

Arrival by train

The easiest way to reach Bayreuth is from Nürnberg Central Station. There are trains going every half an hour during working hours. Travelers from the Northeast or East can get to Bayreuth via Lichtenfels or Hof.

Local city transport

The bus line 316 connects Bayreuth Central Station directly with the campus (Bus stop “Geowissenschaften”). The bus lines 304, 306 and in the evenings 326 start from the ZOH (central bus station) near Marktplatz, which is in walking distance from Bayreuth Central Station. The bus stops closest to Iwalewahaus are “Luitpoldplatz” and “Sternplatz”.

A single ticket for one person and one journey (“Einzelfahrkarte”) costs 1,80 €, a ticket for the whole day (“Tagesticket”) costs 4 €.

Arrival by long-distance coach

Coaches stop at Bayreuth Central Station (see Arrival by train) or directly at the canteen (“Mensa”) on the campus.

Arrival by car

Highway A9 exit 42 Bayreuth-Süd, follow the signs “Universität” afterwards (Dr.-Konrad-Pöhner-Straße, turn right on Universitätsstraße, turn left onto campus)

Bayreuth has accommodation facilities of all categories.  There are allotments for conference attendees in Hotel Lohmühle (single room 50,50 €, twin room 94,50 €) and in Hotel Rheingold (single room 65 €, twin room 85 €). These can be booked by using the code word “Neue Kulturgeographie”.
